Award for "Intellectual Property 2024"

By: Carlos Castillo, Partner, and Director

For the third consecutive year, Romero Pineda rewards the creativity, innovation, and advocacy of Intellectual Property among various Salvadoran brands. Today, on International Intellectual Property Day, we announce the winner for 2024.

Recognizing an institution is complex, as it does not have a single dimension. It is the combination of its elements that makes it strong, competitive, or relevant. An institution is an organization established to perform a specific function, and in the case of education, it is where the teaching and learning process takes place, supporting individual and social development. However, all this falls under the responsibility of the Director, who materializes the institution's objectives.

Thus, the director plays a key role as a leader in all aspects, demanding perfection. As already noted, this role requires notable leadership, manifested by the ability to motivate the team, directing them along the right path, as they have a comprehensive vision of the mission.

As a leader, they must empower each member of their team to achieve maximum performance, utilizing their resources and paying attention to even the smallest detail.

Particularly, the School of Design at the Dr. José Matías Delgado University, under the leadership of its outstanding alumna, Licentiate Lisette Meléndez, has been the benchmark for artistic expression. Beyond aesthetic contemplation, it promotes reflection on beauty, combining imagination, creativity, and vision. This achievement has been made with great effort, surpassing the limited stereotype that design is merely decorative. It has redirected the perception of design towards functionality and its positive impact on society, while still showcasing the intellectual talent of the creator, the designer, the artist, and the social innovator.

If the above is worthy of recognition, even more so is the fact that the School of Design has taken on the responsibility of being the guardian or curator of indigenous artistic expressions, or those inherent to our culture, through the specialization in artisanal product design. As a higher education institution, it has focused on preserving national knowledge and heritage, reflecting our values, traditions, and documenting, and implementing practices, methods, and techniques unique to El Salvador. By doing so, it preserves our artistic history and projects it to the world through new design products.

Therefore, we are pleased to award the School of Design at the Dr. José Matías Delgado University for its outstanding work that positively impacts unique intellectual creations, protected by Intellectual Property.
