Mr. Castillo currently heads the firm’s Litigation Division overseeing both Corporate and Intellectual Property matters.
He is an accomplished authority on Intellectual Property in El Salvador, having written one of the country’s first Intellectual Property treaties. He has also authored numerous IP articles that have been published by institutions such as the System of Central American Economic Integration (SIECA). He is professor of Intellectual Property Rights, Arbitration and Civil Procedures Law at several local Universities.
Carlos brings over 25 years of IP experience to support the litigation activities of the Intellectual Property practice. He has also taught seminars regarding Intellectual Property Rights in the CAFTA–DR, trademarks and copyrights. He has been designated by the Commission of Culture of the Honorable Supreme Court of Justice as lecturer on topics of Intellectual Property and International Trade.
Carlos has participated in the Central American effort to modernize regional IP legislation through several programs of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). He was appointed in 2001-2002 as part of the legal team to advise the Salvadoran Ministry of Economy on the new Trademark Law. He also served as advisor to the private sector in the IP negotiating table during the CAFTA-DR negotiation rounds and the CAFTA negotiations with México.
Carlos has been appointed as an international consultant, and has participated in events organized by the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) of the Dominican Republic, Chemonics International and others.
He is a member of the Interamerican Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI) and has been working on different Sub-Committees of the International Trademark Association (INTA). He is a member and advisor of the Graphic Designer Association in El Salvador as well as founding member of the IP Committee of the AMCHAM - El Salvador. He currently serves as the Chairman of such Intellectual Property Committee.
Carlos obtained his law degree from Universidad Dr. José Matías Delgado in San Salvador, in 1984, and is an authorized Attorney.
